FYRE Barnes & Noble Book Fair

Hey everyone!

FYRE is having a book fair at the local Barnes & Noble on November 17th and 18th. Any time on those days, if you let the cashier know you want to support us, a portion of all the proceeds from your purchases will go to us at no additional cost to you. You can also support us when buying online from the 17th through the 22nd by using the code 12436135.
We will be set up inside the Barnes & Noble store on the dates of the in-house book fair, and we will have robot demonstrations, Legos, and crafts.

If you’re planning on buying anything soon, please stop by this weekend to support us.
Hope to see you all there!

Dolan Auto Group Class Project Voting

Hey everyone!

FYRE is participating in the Dolan Auto Group Class Project which is a fundraising activity hosted by the Dolan Auto Group that gives $5,000 to 10 projects and $10,000 to one project. We applied for this and made a video detailing the reasons you should vote for us and how rewarding being on FYRE is. This money will help us build our robot and go to competition as well as keep membership on the team free for all students as our yearly budget is about $20,000. To receive the money, however, we have to be in the top ten projects by community votes. Voting closes on the 29th of October, and you can vote once per email address and once per device. Please go to https://www.dolanautogroup.com/class-project/fall-2018.htm and vote for us as much as possible! The screen shown above is where you need to be to vote for us.

Fundraising Garage Sale

We are holding a garage sale on Saturday, September 29th from 7am to 1pm. It will be held at 4005 Corvallis Drive, Reno, NV near Galena High School, and all proceeds will go towards funding the FYRE Robotics team’s upcoming build season.

We will also be taking donations of items to sell. If you have anything you’d like to give, contact our coach at kerrythmpsn@gmail.com.

Website Updates

Hey everyone!

As we approach the 2019 season with off-season planning and meetings to discuss team growth, we are also making some changes to the website. As it is under construction, many things may not always be visible or complete. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience. We’re trying to make it better as quickly as possible, so be on the lookout for new posts and photos soon as well as updated team member and sponsor pages!

Hey everyone!

Last week we attended the Sacramento Regional at UC Davis, and we ended up placing 24th out of 65. We also won the Imagery Award for our theme, mascot, and spirit! We had a great time and surpassed even our own expectations!

Barnes and Noble Book Fair

Hey everyone!

We are having a book fair at Barnes and Noble (5555 S Virginia St, Reno, NV 89502) on October 7th and 8th from 9am to 5pm each day. We hope to raise enough money to significantly help pay the costs of competition and build materials.
Come by and get those books you’ve been meaning to get or check out something new. Just tell the cashier you’re supporting FYRE, and we will receive between 10 and 20 percent of the proceeds. Or, you can pick up a bookmark from our table there and show it at check-out. We will be there all day with the robot, a LEGO table, and our mascot. You can also present this voucher at check-out and we will receive proceeds from your purchase:

Additionally, you can buy a special FYRE drink and dessert at the Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble, and the proceeds from those foods will go to us.

Hope to see you there!

Off-Season Meetings

Hey everyone!

We kicked off the off-season with an introductory meeting and a tour of the Tesla Gigafactory 1. In our first meeting on Thursday, we welcomed new members, started learning how to use Solidworks for our designs, and fixed up Leah after competition and travel. The next day, five team members and our head coach took a tour of the under-construction Tesla gigafactory near Fernley along with members of a local FTC team. Here’s us in the lobby:

Keep a lookout for more updates as we move into the off-season and introduce more members and activities!

Hey everyone!

FYRE made it back from competition in Sacramento last night, and we did great, surpassing all of our expectations. We had a lot of fun and can’t wait for next year. In the elimination rounds, we were picked to be on an alliance with teams 2141 Spartronics and 1072 Harker Robotics. Together, we made it to the semi-finals! Here’s a picture of our alliance after the competition:
